Reduction of illegal use of software licenses, reduction of license purchasing and management costs, and building on-campus information infrastructure.
Duration of EES
The EES contract between the University of Tsukuba and Microsoft is to be renewed every year.
Software cannot be used if the university does not renew the EES.
Uninstallation of software becomes necessary in addition to stopping use of software in this case.
The EES software can be used only while you are affiliated with the University of Tsukuba.
Uninstallation of software becomes necessary in addition to stopping use of software when you leave the university.
You cannot use EES if you do not agree to the above terms.

Number of Available Licenses
There is no limit to the number of computers on which software may be installed as long as licenses are appropriately used under strict management of faculty and staff.
Borrowers must list the number of computers the software will be installed on at the time of online distribution or lending of media.
Note that the University may investigate the actual status of usage.
Eligible Software
The University of Tsukuba has enrolled in the "Desktop Education" portion of the EES offered by Microsoft. Therefore, software classified as "Desktop Education" may be freely used within the limitations of the license.

Windows OS Installation on a Mac
The EES contract allows users to install Windows OS on a Mac using an upgrade license.
The installation can be performed via one of the following two types of software: 1. Apple Boot Camp
2. Virtualization Software (VMware Fusion, Parallels Desktop, Virtual Box, etc.)
Notes:
- ACCC does not provide support for the installation of Windows OS via the above software.
- Installation programs downloaded from Download Station cannot be used for the installation of Windows OS via the above software.
Borrow an installation DVD from ACCC and install by the DVD.
In principle, only the current iteration and previous generation of software are distributed because of security and support reasons.
The "Japanese version" and "English version" are provided for each product. (Software versions in other languages are not available.)
Windows and Office product editions other than those shown above cannot be used.
The EES contract covers faculty and staff only, therefore students cannot install software. However, students may install on behalf of faculty and staff under observation.
Core CAL (Core Client Access License)
Eligible personnel can also use CAL to connect to Windows Server OS. The server OS itself (e.g., Windows Server 2012) is not included in the EES and must be purchased separately.

Windows Server CAL

Exchange Server CAL
SharePoint
SharePoint Server CAL
Skype for Business (former Lync)
Skype for Business Server Standard CAL (former Lync Server CAL)
SCCM
System Center Configuration Manager CML
Server software licenses such as Windows Server 2012 are not included in the EES contract. Thus, purchase of them is needed.
The EES is based on the number of faculty and staff. Therefore, Core CAL is only available to "faculty and staff that are covered."
Insufficient CAL and external connector licenses must be purchased by each organization.
Always ask the Microsoft license contact or other designated contacts if clarification is needed.
Software Distribution
Software for on-campus use by faculty and staff is provided by online distribution or lending from approved locations.
Software distribution management system (Uchida Yoko Download Station):
Installation packages should be securely managed by faculty and staff.
License Authentication
The University of Tsukuba uses the Key Management Service (KMS) license authentication method.
Click here for details on the KMS license authentication procedure at the University of Tsukuba.

Definition of Terms
On-campus computers:
Computers that faculty or staff manage under the direction of the University of Tsukuba. These computers are often purchased or leased by university-controlled funds, such as school funds or Kakenhi. On-campus computers are designated as either "computers for work by faculty and staff" or "computers for on-campus education."
Computers for home use:
Computers purchased with private expenses are typically used at home by faculty or staff. Computers purchased with private expenses and used on-campus are not regarded as on-campus computers.
Computers for work by faculty and staff:
Computers used on-campus that faculty or staff use for research, education, or work.
Computers for on-campus education:
Computers used on-campus for educating students. These include computer systems used university-wide, computers provided by colleges and graduate schools for classroom use, and computers used by students in research groups.
A. Yes, you can. There is no need for re-installation. The license key does not need to be changed even in products authenticated with a product key from a volume license. However, installation with expired licenses other than EES will not be possible after March 2, 2013.
A. The "32-bit version" and the "64-bit version" handle different amounts of memory. The maximum memory that can be used by the 32-bit version is about 4 GB, but the 64-bit version can use memory exceeding 4 GB.
A. An "upgrade version" is software that allows use of the "upgraded" product if you own the license of the previous version of the product. The University of Tsukuba provides the "upgrade version" of Windows OS. Note that you need the license key of the product to be upgraded if you wish to install such products.
A. A "new install" copies the original Windows OS to the folder windows.old and then installs a new Windows OS. In contrast, an "upgrade install" inherits the settings of the original Windows OS.
A. You need to separately obtain an OS to upgrade from. The upgrade version can be used if you have a package license that allows installation of a new OS.
A. A Client Access License (CAL) is a license necessary for accessing a certain Microsoft server.
Eligible users of the EES contract are granted the following types of CALs:
Windows Server CAL
Exchange Server Standard CAL
SharePoint Server Standard CAL
Skype for Business Server Standard CAL (former Lync Server CAL)Lync Server Standard CAL
System Center Configuration Manager CML
Users can use the CALs without any operations on the servers.
Please be aware that a CAL is a right of use and is not associated with a license number.
The CALs of the EES contract cover “faculty and staff” based on the number of them.
For more details, refer to http://ds.cc.tsukuba.ac.jp/ees.en.html#users.
*If an ineligible member needs to use a CAL included in the EES contract, he/she has to get it himself/herself.
If he/she uses a university-owned computer, he/she may be eligible for the CAL without purchasing it.
NOTES:
・“Remote Desktop Access to Windows Server (RDS CAL)” and “External Connector License”
are not included in the EES contract. If an on-campus organization needs them, they need to purchase them themselves.
・When purchasing a CAL, you may be able to receive some discount by telling the retailer that our university has made the EES contract.
A. We permit installation of EES products or license authentication via the VPN connection only in special cases (e.g. if you are temporarily working off-campus during aseismic construction or if you are staying abroad on a long training course).
Please note that we do not provide support for installing a VPN client or solving problems associated with the VPN connection.
